AUCKLAND TEAMS

A STRIKE RESULTING. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 3. Uje threatened strike of tramwaymen in connection with the recent'dismissal of jockeys did *not affect the races' today. Men booked to run race-cars declined to leave the barn until the management had diverted a large number of cars from other routes to those adjacent to the racecourse. After forty minutes, the men who had determined not to run specials assisted in conveying race-goers, though .their ears had not the usual destination signs. There was no hitch in running the race trains, tlje fact that “ the jockeys are riding ” had a deal to do with the breakdown of tlie threatened strike. Pickets were ini duty trying to dissuade people attending the races, but there was no apparent < diminution in the crowd bound thither. Later information shows 31 car crews detailed for the races refused to leave tlie barn. After some delay, other crews'/ took a number of special care along tlie Remuera line, along which the race trams run. It is reported the men have been tuspended. This is unconfirmed. A meeting of the Union was held this afternoon to discuss the situation.

Latest.—The whole tramway service is suspended, cars returning to the barns owing to the suspension of the crew for refusing to take race trams out.
