ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET.

A DRAGGING SALE.

CHRISTCHURCH, June 3.

Messrs Matson and Co. report as follows regarding their stock side yesterday:—

Fat Cattle.—The yarding was equal to last week and the quality good. The demand was stronger all round and prices were higher. Extra steers sold to £3O 10s; prime, £2l to £26; unfinished, £ls to 18; cows and heifers, £lO 10s to £l3' and up to £l9 10s lor extra heavy heifers. Store cattle,—A small yarding, with no exporters buying. Bulls and dry cows wore very dull oi sale. One line of 50 Hereford calves made £4 2s 6d. A line of 30 18-mos. steers, shorthorn cross, sold at £4 4s; bulls £6 to £l3; caws, £4 to to £6 455. Fat sheep,—A very large yarding, including some extra good quality;, also a large number of inferior and unfinished ewes. The market for all good stud was firm, but for medium and inferior was easier. Freezing buyers were only operating sparingly, owing to the shortage of space. Best wethers to 53s 6d; prime, 42s to 47s 6d; good, 35s to 41s 6d; others, 26s 6d to 335. Best ewes 36s 6d, a few extra good making 51s Gd; primp, 27s to 36s 6d; medium and inferior, 17s 6d to 26s 6d. Store sheep.—A fairly large entry, mostly south sheep, which were very dull of sale. Any good local sheep sold' .well at recent rates. Best wethers sold up to 28s 4d; others, 25s 6d to 275; best sound mouth ewes, up to 275; hoggets from 16s to 21s; others from 11s Gd to 16s, a few making 20s. The market generally was very dragging and a large proportion of the entry was passed at auction.
