The Seamen’s Executive Council have issued a call to all tlie maritime Unions to attend a Worldls International Maritime Congress. It is anticipated 'that far-reaching results for seamen will he achieved. So far, the place of meeting lias not been decided on. The wharf labourers, like the seamen, are now demanding the release of the I.WAV. prisoners within a month, failing which a stop-work meeting will he held to consider wlftt further action be taken. BOWLS. BRISBANE, June 2. Tlie Combined North Brisbane Clubs beat the Auckland bowlers by 121 to 117. ELECTION DECLARED VOID. MELBOURNE, June 2. • The Federal Court of Disputed Election Returns lias just decided an appeal by Mr McGrath, the Labour candidate for Ballarat- seat. The court has declared the election for Ballarat at last Federal Elections void. The Court states that the evidence has revealed what, amounts to incredible carelessness on the -part of the local electoral officers. The ease arose out of the alleged defeat of Mr McGrath by a. nationalist. Mr McGrath is a returned soldier, and was member for Ballarat in Labour's interest till the final count at Ballarat turned his majority into a minority of one vote in favour of a Nationalist, Mr Kerby. A new election will now be held.
FEDERAL NEiWS. SYDNEY, June 2. Useful rains have fallen in the greater part of the State, over an inch being recorded along the Darling, which is a particularly dry region. Other subsantial falls must be experienced in the near future before it can be stated definitely that the drought lias broken. The latest reports show' that the good rains continue in the drought area. Sydney suffers a severe ‘loss through Professor Wilson’s acceptance of the Chair of Anatomy at Cambridge University. He recently succeeded to the post ofDean of the Faculty of Medicine at Sydney.
AIELROURNE Ju|ne 2. The annual war pensions liability is now £6,153,435. The Postal revenue for the past eleven months amounted to £6,358,947, being an increase of £192,259, compared with the previous similar period. Air Mehuish, the financial editor of the Alelbourne “Argus,” and a noted authority on finance, is dead.

The round-the-table conference, held to endeavour to arrange a settlement of the Broken Hill strike, failed to reach finality. It will be resumed tomorrow.
