LATE LOCALS.

Messrs G. Willetts and Son, bricklayers, C/o I\o. Kanieri., notify they are prepared to carry out all brick and cement work.

In sentencing C. E. Mackuy, to fif-

teen v uii\s penal servitude, at Wanganui last week, the Chief Justice said that the sentence would be revised after a few years by the Prisons Board and the executive Government and it did not mean that the accused would have to serve all the time in gaol.

At the annual meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club, Air M. G. Bridge remarked that on occasions there had been dissatisfaction over the placing of horses and he wondered if instantaneous photographs could not lie taken of the finishes of races. From photographs which lie had seen in the illustrated papers lie considered that this was practicable and the judge would be fortified in liis decisions if he had photographs of the results of races. A member remarked that there would be no difficulty in.that, but the public would not like to be 1 kept waiting for a quarter of an hour until the photographic plate was developed in case of a close finish. Air Bridge: The public would have an interest in the true decision, and tlie time lost would not be of much matter. It was agreed to submit the recommendation to a committee.
