English papers in India,. commenting on the Hunter Report, strongly defend, General Dyer, declaring he saved the Punjab. Indian papers "assert that •while the majority report white-wash-ed Dyer, it will only deepen the feeling caused by the happenings in the Punjab.
THE AMRITSAR REPORT. (Received this day at 1.30 p.m.} LONDON, May 30.
There is widespread criticism for and x against the Amritsar report. Leading Anglo-Indians generally support Dyer. Lord Sydenham, in an article, declares if the rebellion in Punjab had succeeded it would have been a drsas- . to, of the first magnitude. Dyers action cannot be justly condemned by anyone, who has followed closely recent events in India.
