RETURNED SOLDIERS
ANNUAL CONFERENCE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Bay. The fourth annual conference of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers Association opened on Saturday night and will be continued throughout tlie 'prei sent week. A large number of delegates were present. ,Dr Boxer (President of the Association) occupied the chair. The Mayor (Mr J. Luke) welcomed the delegates. The annual report states during the past year, the following distinguished visitors and soldiers were enrolled as members —Prine of Wales (Life Pati ron), Lord Jellicoe (life member), Major Generals Russell, Chnytor, Brigadier Generals Richardson, Hart and - Stewart. Tiro membership, has risen from 25,000 to 57,000. During the. year there sprang into existence a British section, of the Association composed of genuine ex-N.ZE.F- men ,and N.Z. members of other forces. There have been several anomalies‘in respect to gratuities and a Committo was set to deal with those matters. The past year has been one of unrest as regards internal organisation. A satis factory arrangement has not yet been come to. At present headquarters is more or less a scapegoat of all the Associations in the Constitution. Mr Andrews (Auckland) suggested that a public meeting be held in the Town Hall, Wellington, at the conolnsipn of the Conference to make known the Association’s desires and demands.
