fPER PIIEHB ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.; A HEAVY GALE. CARTETRON, May 22. A howling gale, with intermittent gusts of hurrincc force, was experienced here last night. Fences, gates, etc., have boon blown down. The side of M. P. Lees’ traction engine shed was blown in. The gale still rages,, but the fierce gusts are fewer ,with frequent showers of heavy rain.
A FATAL COLLISION.
CHRISTCHURCH, May 23
A collision occurred on the New Brighton road last night between a motor-car and a tram car, resulting in the death of Vm D. Griffin, aged 39 a widower, employed in the repair shop of the International Harvester Company. R. B. Forsyth, another occupant of the car, was slightly ijured. The motorcar was badly smashed up.
THE JOCKEY’S DISPUTE. CHRISTCHURCH, May 22.
A Christchurch deputation from the Trades Unions waited on the Premier hero with regard to the jockeys’ dispute. The Premier said lie thought the matter was within measurable distance of settlement, as lie was convinced that the Racing Conference would recognise tho Jockeys’ Association.
