SLUMP IN ENGLISH BUYING, REDUCTION IN PRICES LIKELY, LONDON, May 2Q. The reflex of the American slump is now evident in England, London’s post-war period of extravagant luxury buying and of enprmqiis profits shows signs of ending. The verge of the busiest season of the year finds the West-end business men anxious to unload their heavy stocks of goods. They are fearful of the possibilities of an economy craze %nd a consequent slump ill buying.
There is an increasing dearness of money, which contributes to the downward pressure. The managers of ho- . tels, restaurants, and shops indicate that the high spending will, soon he confined to the “new rich.” Modistes declare that women iii the highest social posiitons are now cutting down their dress expenditure by two-thirds.
