The match in Olympia to-day, in which' Joe Beckett knocked out Bombardier "Wells iii the third round of their 20-round match lor the heavyweight'championship of England, was a ding-dong contest; Both men '■> looked superbly lit. Wells rushed in and landed a left on his opponent’s nose. Beckett responded with a couplo of left hooks to the point and a right to the body. Wells forcing the pace, landed a left and right on Beckett’s face. The second round opened , sensationally. Beckett, fighting like a bull, sent Wells down with a left to the jaw. Wells rising after nine seconds, fought strongly, bringing his famous stNiight left repeatedly into action. Beckett heedless of terrific blows about his’face, sent in a hard right. Wells, in‘the third round, continued to mix magnificently against Beckett’s mighty rushes. Beckett, impervious to punishment, fought fiercely. Though lie frequently missed he landed several hefty punches, 'flic men stood up and returned the blows. Beckett’s strength prevailed at last, and a heavy punch to the jaw floored Wells, who was counted out. Tho last round lasted 170 seconds.
