LONDON, May 19. j In the House of Commons, in reply 'to questions, Mr Austin Chamberiain (Chancellor of the Exchequer) , stated that Franco’s nett war debt'to Britain would probably be under £500,000,000. No definite arrangement had been reached in regard to a repayment of the debt. The British and French ’Governments had agreed that tire payment of Ger- . many’-s reparation must be in the terms ‘ of the Treaty, namely, the cost of the army of occupation first, and any sums allowed Germany for food and raw material next; but there would bo no question of priority amongst the Allies in regard to the distribution of sums available' in payment and reparation. i /'' 1 I TOMMY BURN'S IN LIMELIGHT I (Received this day, at 9.30 a.m.) ' | LONDON, May 30.' 1 Tommy Burns has announced that he !is prepared to put up £IOOO or £2OOO I against Beckett for tlie Empire championship. Government have offered eleven acres behind the British Museum,- as a site for a London University, worth a million ,but the national finances will not permit Government to provide premises. RAIIAVAYMEN’S PAY. (Received this day, at 9.30 a.m.) . LONDON, May 20. At the Wages Board enquiry into the railwaymen’s - claim for increases of pay, an accountant produced figures to show the cost of increased wages over prewar sums was already one hundred millions. Tbe new claim would involve a further thirty five millions. -
