The lion. Minister of Public AA’orks advised Mr Bruce, County Chairman, by 'telegram to-day from Greymouth that regarding AYaikukupa bridge, the plans, which have been submitted, are satisfactory, and the Minister has given authority to expend a certain amount of money to enable the Resident Enginer to let a contract for squaring and sawing the necessary timber. The Otira tunnel lias now been penetrated from the Arthur’s Pass end to one milo 37 chains, and the lining has been completed to within four chains of that distance. Mr J. B. The weather yesterday for the .Ministerial visit south proved very favourable, Before reaching Ross, the sun began to lend his genial /countenance, and the day turned out fine. At I lari Hari, the weather was quite genial, and the Inter-Wanganui Flat looked well in the bright sunshine. Lake lantlie was a very pleasing feature, while the bush j country looked at its best. The high J mountains had a good covering of snow, so that the scenic features of the south trip were much to be admired. The road was in excellent order all along the route, and the motoring party were able to make good time when travelling. Thero was just enough water in the Little Waitahii river to make the crossing interesting—a little more and the south trip for motors yesterday would have been barred. Hon Coates much enjoyed his flying visit south.

Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Public Works, had a strenuous day yesterday. In addition to motoring 140 miles during the day, he received several public and private deputations and wound up the long day at a social at Greymouth at night.
