(By Electric Telegraph—Copyriglic./ , LONDONDERRY RIOTS. v -LONDON, May 16. For hours, rioting occurred at Londonderry on Saturday liiglit between Sinn Feincrs and Unionists. One hundred shots were fired. The Police fixing bayonets, charged the rioters. - Detective Moroney was fatally wounded and a civilian critically.
Military preparations, i : LONDON, May 16. Large quantities of barbed wire are arriving in Ireland. They are believed to be connected with 1 the new military preparations against the Irish, and to be designed for a blockhouse system. Lancers military patrols are now . being employed in the west and south of Ireland. They are to prevent cattle driving. . . - , Rioting at Londonderry is reported to have lasted until early-morning. Troops were called out. - They separated rival t. factions.
The troops drew cordons round troubled areas. Then then conducted a systematic search for arms. Violence then gradually subsided. Firearms were used with alarming frequency by both sides. There were three deaths. Others were seriously wounded.
RELEASED SINN FEiNERS. ’ ' LONDON, May 16. Sinti Fein prisoners who have been on hunger strike have now been released from Wormwood Scrubs Prison,’ near London. They were 6ent to a large hospital to recover, j They -became indignant because there was a shortage of food at their midday meal. They quitted the hospital in a body. It was alleged they reduced the nurses to- tears by them unreasonableness. They have n6t vet returned, however, while the authorities of the hospital say they have no power to compel the prisoners to stnj; if they are dissatisfied. SINN FEIN COURTS. LONDON, May 17. 'Throughout considerable areas of the West and South of Ireland there are Sinn Fein law courts, which are increasingly arresting, trying, and sentencing offenders for any crimes committed. • .
