GENERAL CABLES.

By Electric Telegraph—Cou.vr'.gln.- ' WOOL SCHEME CRITICISED. (Received This Day at b a.m.; •LONDON, May 15.

Goldfinch, interviewed by the Ytoexshire “Post” said the principal objection to Air Hughes wool scheme from the users point of view should he thuv the supplies were vitally interrupted from October to December, when it iv-ai essential for trade that 200,000 bales ,should arrive monthly. Three blank months would bring to a standstill a number of mills especially- in France and Belgium, .as they had no stocks. It was necessary for trade that Government wool should lie sold right up to the end of December, and it would be highly inconvenient if there were no sale here. I doubt if it would ,e practicable. He no doubt, would be able to arrange a ( reasonable division of shipping between' the owners of the now clip and the Imperial Government. It was never our intention to ignore the interests of/growers in respect of the new clip. The “Yorkshire Observer” says it is probable that not much more will be heard of Air Hughes wool scheme. Inquiries show the authorities iu London do not regard it seriously. They ought, 1 to have little difficulty in convincing Air Hughes that there is nothing to bo said in favour of the proposals. The opinion is growing here that the scheme is due to' Mr-Hughes being oblig'd willingly to exert- himself in the interests of the Commonwealth grower. This is ,perfectly legitimate but if the inference is correct the proposal neU not be considered alarming. The “Times Trade Supplement” savs there is a suspicion that Air Hughes’ interference is prompted by a desi.-e to nationalist the -Australian wool trade and wool and textile industries.
