THE RAILWAYMEN.
(Per Press Association.) RAILWAYMEN’S TRIBUNAL. WELLINGTON, May 14. The tribunal set up to consider the A.S.R.A. section of the railway dispute held its first sitting to-day. The order of reference directs the tribunal to inquire and report to the Minister of Ralways upon such matters affecting the rates of pay and conditions of work of the Second Division as may be brought before it by the Depart ment or A-S.R.S. The inquiry may be conducted in public or in private when- , ever the members think fit. To-day’s proceedings were private. ! The Prime Minister attended the opening of the tribunal.
Consideration of matters went on satisfactorily during the afternoon, and will be resumed on the morrow. The representatives of the Government on the Loco Dispute Committee will be Mr James Marchbanks (formerly chief engineer for the old Manawatu Railway Company) and Mr W. H. Millward, sometime ago manager of the Gear Meat Company.
