METHODIST CONFERENCE. SYDNEY, May 13,
The Methodist Conference adopted a resolution, expressing apprehension at the prevailing laxity of morality in the community generally, especially where the relation of the sexes arc concerned The Conference appoined a Committee to report ns to some practical lines on which the Conference could act. Thp discussion indicated a feeling that what was characterised as “the cowardly silence and the veiled utterances of the Church, and of parents,” which should cease. It was urged that methods adopted by which the Church and parents should act in concert in the matter of sox education. The evils were considered largely the result of ignorance.

NO SATURDAY WORK. COST OF PROPOSAL. (Received This Dnv at 12.25 p.in.) , SYDNEY, May 14. • A deputation of employers affected by the forty-four hours week agitation waited on Mr Cann and protested against the agitation. It was stated the cost of no Saturday work annually would he eight or ten million. The induction of hours would mean the employment of an additional 12,500 workers to maintain tho output. An additional fifteen millions would have to be spent to provide plant for these workers. As neither additional plant nor workers were .available this would mean the employment of ordinary workers at time and a half, which would cost, rile community, another thirty millions annually. MELBOURNE, May 14. A ballot of building trade employees resulted in a majority in favour of the abolition of the forty hours week strike and tho return to work on the old terms.
SALARY OF MEMBERS: MELBOURNE, March 14. The House of Representatives by 12 to 16, on the motion of Mr Romford voted that Government be requested to increase salaries of members to £IOOO annually. Mr .Hughes supported, the motion, stating if they were outside Par liament they could earn three times n member’s salary.
