The farm was bought by Aneell Gray from John Balfelllie seven months ago at £9B per acre. It was disposed of in six lots, and averaged £139 14s per acre, two lots belong bought for £144 per acre, one for £134, two for £124, and one for £l2O. R. JAY. Bi'cknelel, of Hawke’s Bay, was the only outside buyer.
WAITRESSES ON STRIKE. AUCKLAND, 'May 4. Acting on the .motto “strike who i the dinner’s hot.” the waitresses in two restaurants in town yesterday struck • work when the clock struck twelve. The union point of view was explained later by the secretary iff the Hotel and Restaurants’- Workers' Union, who stated that officially the strike was not a strike at all so far as the Union was concerned. They had asked for a rise in wages, and as the request had'not 'been granted on a. specified data, they had walked out without consulting the i<nion officials. They bad afterwards spoken to him and he had advised them that their action could not be hacked up by the union. The secretary added that he had ioceptly had to intervent to prevent a similar incident at Rotorua, just- on the eve of the Prince’s visit.
