ROYAL VISIT TO HOKITIKA.
The general arrangements for t.lie functions at Hokitika, in connection with the Royal Visit to Hokitika on May 12th and 13th. are now advancing substantially. The Childrens’ billet-ting committee meets at 7.15 to-night- aiwl the social committee at 8.15 at the County Cliam'bers. Mr Tom Pollard writing from Christchurch states he has been successful in procuring sets of pictures which will suit the children splendidly at the picture entertainments on the occasion of the Royal visit. One very interesting and specially appropriate picture will ho that showing the investiture of Prince Edward as the Prince. of Wales. Ml - Pollard returns to the Coast next week in good time to make arrangements for the children’s entertainments. Additional offers of accommodation for -school children visiting Hokitika on the night of next Wednesday week, will bo welcomed, and intimation in regard to same should be notified to Mr S. J. Preston.
For the transport of the children from Hari Hari, the lorry of the Ross Tame works has been secured and will ■be improvised for the occasion. The children will be brought to Ross in time to connect up with the afternoon train for Hokitika. Tickets for the citizen’s ball are now being distributed in accordance with the applications. Those for the country districts wore posted yesterday evening and the town tickets went out- this morning. 'Hie invitations to the Town Hall function will be distributed to-morrow.
| Mr Seddon telegraphs from Wolling- ' ton that tlio Hokitika programme lias been generally approved by the authorities and ho hopes that all the arrangements will be made as completely as possible. Mr Seddon has been asked to supply the names of the visiting officers who will take part in the official set, which will consist of eight couples, and bo the first number on the ball programme. The Executive will meet on Tuesday evening next to complete all detailed arrangements in regard to tlio local programme. Hon:. Grimmond advises that 800 flags for the school children are being despatched from Wellington to the Town Clf-'rk, Hokitika, and should reach he.ro early next week. Sir Joseph Kinsey of Christchurch has kindly loaned tho Ball Committee, a dozen largo flags to assist in tho intcriior decoration of the Brill Shed and annexe. As bunting is vory scarce, tho offer from Sir Joseph was a very welcome one and gladly accepted.
