TAUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CAUI.E ASSOCIATION] Hastings, April 29. •Jimmy Clabby and Tommy Bren met at Hastings last night in a fifteen-round bout tor a purse of ,£SOO. Roth men appeared to ho in the pink of condition. (Jren was the favourite in the betting, and it was evident from the first round that both men were after the money, the result being a splendid exhibition of the noble art, though the public were disappointed at the amount of in-fighting. 'l'he referee separated them continuously, hut Bren. kept to ciose quarters, this being his long suit.
Clabby allowed to much better advantage tlian in previous bouts, and is evidently at bis very best form. Ho gained points for open work and some in close jabbing fighting. TJron gained his points in in-fighting and for splendid defence work. The fight was clean throughout. Clabby was applauded for his sportsmanlike fighting when (Iren slipped on three occasions. Referee Burns of Auckland, gave a draw, the decision being loudly applauded.
