I lie primary cause of everything soaiing is due directly to the war, Sixteen millions of men were taken away as producers for five years, and during that time they wore destroying wealth. Not only were these men taken away from producing, hut they ate up in value much more than they would have done had they been working at their ordinary pursuits, millions of other workers were also taken away from tlioir farms and factories to produce instruments of destruction, shot and shell and othoi requisites for battle use not- on® item of which had any economic value or added one shilling to the wealth of the world-
