At a meeting of the members of the Post and Telegraph Association a motion was proposed that failing recognition of the Associations through Executive, a ballot should .be organised and if necessary the Executive should be (alleel on to take extreme action. It was asserted members had to work at n’glit and get their wives to take in sewing, in order to support their families. .Some sj eakers thought the proposal too drastic. The Secretary said a .vossage had been received from Mr Massey which was interpreted to mean that the bonus alleged to have been promised by Sir J. G. Ward was not to be paid The meeting resolved on insisting on a straightoiit reply within throe days, and if the answer w as in the negative, .tiic meeting pledged itself to stand by any action the executive may think fit. POST AND TELEGRAPH. WANGANUI, This Day. A meeting of over one hundred members of the Post and Telegraph Association passed a resolution sympathising with the Railwaymen and offering financial assistance; also that a conference he called on their own matters and the Executive supported in any action they see fit.
A MAN DROWNED. WANGANUI, This Day. A man J. Brown, jumped off a launch proceeding up the river and was drowned.
CHARGE DISMISSED. WELLINGTON, This Day. The charge against Volaire, the French pugilist, of landing in New Zealand without authority was dismissed, the S.M. holding that the document signed by the Military Officer in Australia, produced by the defendant, came within the definition of a passport.
