Father Michael Liston, who has been appointed by the Pope ns Co-adjutor-Bishop of Auckland, was horn in Dunedin in 1881, a son of the late Mr James Liston. He was educated at the Christian Brothers’ School, Dunedin, then at Manly, under (he late Dr Verdun, Ireland, and Rome. Tn 1904 lie was ordained in Dunedin. He has since been stationed at Holy Cross College, Mosgiel, of which he has been professor and rector since 1910. The Rev. Father James Whyte, who has been appointed Bishop of Dunedin in succession to the late Dr Verdun, was horn some 54 years ago at Kilkenny, Ireland, where lie was educated. He went to Sydney in 1891, as a. professor of the College at Manly, and after four years service took up parish work there. He has been Chancellor of the Archdiocese for several years, and a director of the “Catholic Press.” , Father Whyte was a personal friend of the late Bishop Verdun, whom he visited some throe years ago. Ho is recognised as a man of most cultured attainments.
