A SMART ARREST. AUCKLAND, This Day. At midniglit, Constable Holt saw a man enter the premises of P. H. Ferenson and Coy., wholesale stationers in Albert Street. He pursued him upstairs and found the man behind a package. The man threatened to down his pursuer, but the Constable switched off his electric torch and closed with the man, as a heavy steel chisel grazed his cheek. The man was arrested and removed to the police station. He was in possession of articles for which he will Ret required to account. The arrested man, in the encounter, sustained a fractured collarbone and injury to the jaw. TUNNEL WORKERS. AUCKLAND, April 23. After -being “out” for several weeks the men working in Hunrau tunnel, on the North Auckland Trunk railway, about 92 miles from Auckland, resumed work. In telegraphing this information to tbe Auckland Railways League, the Commissioner stated that work had'been resumed pending a Dominion Conference to be held month. A.S.R.S. MOTIONS. OBITUARY. WELLINGTON, This Day. Mr G. Hogben, aged 60, ex-Director of Education, died this mroning. He bad been ill for some time.
