Meetings of householders for. the election of School Committees takes place to-night at the various centres at 7.30 o’clock.
It was announced in Thursday’s “Gazette” that the proposal of the Southland Electric Power Board to borrow £1,500,000 for generating and distributing electric power from Monowai Stiver and Lake had been carried by 6510 votes to 41-5.

About 100,000 small Union Jack Hags have been printed on calico by the Government Printing Department for the use of .schools during the Prince’s visit. The Stratford electoral 1011, which closed on Monday, contains 808 new enrolments, which is considered a ••ccord for. a by-electeion. The issue of absent voters’ permits will not close until the day preceding the election, hut already 283 have’ been issued, as compared with 162 for the general election. Removals from the main and .supplementary rolls, through deaths, transfers, etc., number nearly 1100 (including 893 removed prior to the general election. The number of electors eligible to vote at the by-election which takes place on May 6th., will, therefore be about 7505, as compared with 6904 at the general election.

Owing to the heavy floods in all south rivers, both south coach services have been held up since Saturday.
