INFLUENZA OUTBREAK

(Per Press Association.) IN AUCKLAND DISTRICT. AUCKLAND, April 23. “There is a pretty widespread epidemic of influenza in the North, and wo have accordingly decided to close the schools in tlm Whangarei, the Bay of Islands, and the Hokianga districts for the next week,” stated Doctor Mat-Gill, District Health Officer, to-day. “I can say nothing about numbers, but all the doctors in the districts named arc notifying cases freely. There are one or tw serious cases hut no more tlian arise in the ordinary course of mild influenza.” Referring to influenza among the Maoris at Rotorua Camp, Dr Mac-Gill stated the cases were all very mild, and more like simple colds. They scarcely warranted being diagonised as influenza. WELLINGTON, April 23. Numerous cases of influenza are reported from Canterbury and parts of Otago.
