COMMERCIAL NEWS.
'WIDINCTON STOCK MARKET. A BRIGHTER MARKET. (By Telegraph.—Special to Guardian.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day, Messrs Matson and Co. report as follows regarding their stock sale yesterday:— Eat Cattle.—There was a medium yarding, and no freezers were competing and the market was dull except for prime quality. Extra steers sold to £24 15s; prime £lB to £2l; light and unfinished £l3 10s -to £l6; . cows- and heifers £lO 10s to £l3 and up to £l7 for extra heavy. Store Cattle.—A large yarding. Several good lines of station bred 3 and 4 year old steers made £lO 15s to £l2 10s. One large line of Hereford calves, extra good, £4 os; drj T cows sold at £5 los to £7 2s 6d. The general tone of the market was dull.
Fat sheep.—Another heavy' yarding. The quality was very mixed and a large preponderance of ewes. The market in our opinion, was hardly so buoyant as last week. Several freezing buyers were not operating. Best -Wethers to 53s Cd, others 46s to 49s 6d; prune 37s to 45s 6d ; medium 33s to 33s 6d; lighter and inferior 27s to 325. Grazers were buying this class chiefly. Ewes were about the same parity and lambs shared no
change. Store sheep.—A large yarding, mostly a better class of sheep than last week, and the market was firm all round.. Best 2-tooth ewes up to 30s; others 23s to 265; S.M. ewes to 28s 6d: medium 18s to 225; others 12s 6d to 16s best- ewes to 225; best wethers to 34s'; others 26s to 30s. The general tone of the market was brighter.
