RAILWAY BOARD. TEWAMUTU, This Day. The election of the Railway Board to undertake the construction of a standard gauge railway between Te Awamutu and Putaruru in connection with the. Main Trunk witn Rotorua line by a shorter route, took place yesterday. There were ten candidates. This is the first Railway Board elected under the Local Railways Act in the Dominion.

There was a slight outbreak of fir< due, it is thought to the fusing of a’ l electric wire on the Wahino at midnight last night, during the voyage from Wd. lington! The fire occurred in a cross alley way of the saloon deck, but was quickly suppressed the only damage being to the lining boards and panelling. Few passengers were aware of the outbreak. _____
