SAN REMO CONFERENCE

Semi-official:—The San Remo Conference defintely decided to internationalize the Straits and establish Allied contingents in Constantinople. CONFERENCE DISCUSSION. SAN REMO, April 20. Official. —The Conference, discussed and approved of the financial clauses of the Turkish Treaty and also discussed the Armenian territorial question, especially the frontier question and question of Batflum.
ARMENIAN MANDATE. LONDON, April 20At the San Remo Conference of the League of Nations a letter "’as read declining the Armenia mandate on the ground that the Covenant does not provide the powers (necessary for that purpose; also the mandate implies a heavy financial and military burden. The Conference decided to send a Note to President Wilson, recommending American support for Armenia financially. The borders of Armenia | were roughly defined. Berlin announces that German troops have begun to evacuate the Ruhr region. CONFERENCE POLICY. PARIS, April 20. The “Matin’s” San Remo correspondent says that whatever communique is issued to please the public, the real subject of discussion at the Conference .was the Allies’ policy towards Germany. Lloyd George and Nitti (Italy) desire to re-awaken a spirit of conciliation throughout the world, with views that the French c an accept, and wish to lighten the burden for Germany, but France cannot accept the policy, which can only be carried out at her expense.
