RAILWAYMEN’S DISPUTE.
A, CANARD DENIED. Iu connection .with the telegraphic message published from Palmerston North on Saturday from an “Argus” special, stating that an increase of 1/per day, over Mr Justice Stringer’s recommendations bad been granted by the Government, on the subject matter of the above being referred to by a “Now Zealand Times” representative to the Prime Minister (who is also EMiniJster for Railways), Mr Massey said that the statement telegraphed was incorrect. He liad given no further, reply to the railwaymen’s societies as; yet, but hoped to be able ; to do so about the middle of next week. Mr M. J. Mack (general secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants), who was also questioned on the subject, stated that lie had received no communication on the matter, and there could be no truth in it. The irailwaymen were not expecting any reply from Mr Massey till nextweek.
