r AUSrUALIiN d’ N.Z. OABUS ASSOCIATION] MATTHEW’S SMASH. (Received This Day at 12.25 p.m.) BATAVIA, April 19. A message from Weltevieden states Matthews’ machine is smashed beyond repair. Only the motor is intact. Matthews states he intends to give up the flight. His bodily condition is alright hut he is very depressed at being forced to give up the flight when the end was in sight. Sergt. Kay lias one rib broken and is severely bruised internally, but is improving under the doctor’s care. Both are being nursed at the home of a Dutch resident. The Dutch Commander-in-Cliief is sending an aviator to Bali to assist in dismantling the machine.
