The social committee in connection with tlie Royal ball for the Prince’s visit in May met at tlie Overseas Cuib yesterday afternoon. Messrs Lawn and Joyce were deputed to arrange for the orchestra on tlie lines proposed, and to secure all tlie necessary music required. The ladies of the Overseas Club appointed Miss Jones in charge of the catering which will require to ho on a considerable scale. The refreshments will be served in a marquee attached to the annexe in Camp Street, and it will be necessary to close portion of the street for the purpose. Adjacent buildings w iil be utilised also, and roomy accommodation will be provided. The Hokitika Bowling Club has closed down for the season, after a fairly sue-, cessful summer. It is proposed to pay special attention to the green during tlio season, to carry on tlie good work achieved during the past season, the green having rapidly improved in its playing capabilities ' during the year. It is hoped that there will be a fuither increase of supporters of the Club next season, which would enable tlie playing area to he further improved.
