WATERSIDERS’ BALLOT,

WELLINGTON,, April 15

Mr J. Roberts, Secretary of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union, announced to-day that as a result of the ballot taken by the waterside workers throughout New Zealand, the new agreement arrived at by the conference with the employers had been accepted. The voting figures are not being released for publication.

THE TRAMWAYMEN. INVERCARGILL, April 15. When the Conciliation Council mot this morning, Mr W. Hagger (Commissioner) presiding, to consider the dispute between the local Tramwaymen’s Union and the Borough Council, the Union’s advocate asked for an adjournment until the Wellington dispute was settled. The Federation, he ;,snul, had decided to take up the case of the-whole of the tramwaymen in New Zealand. The Commissioner said that he understood that-the Christchurch agreement was to be accepted as a basis. The Union’s advocate said the Christchurch Union had let the Federation down. After discussion the proceedings were adjourned till May 27th.

PASTORAL LANDS. INVERCARGILL, April 15. The Pastoral Lands Commission concluded a two days’ sitting here to-day. It heard / a. quantity of evidence bearing on the utilisation of leasehold lands in Southland. The Commission proceeds to Lake Manapori to-morrow.
