WESTLAND WAR MEMORIAL.

LISTS OPENED TO-DAY

The collecting campaign for the Westland War Memorial opened today, and at noon £55 10s was notified as representing funds available, with a number of additional promises for & substantial sum. The balance required to-day stands at £1444 10s and there are still nine days in which to raise the amount.

The canvassers in town and country during the next few days will be busy covering, their allotted districts. It is hoped to raise the full amount required by Anzac Day, the 25th inst. The general committee and local can. vassers will meet this evening to con-

fer as to the progress of the collecting campaign. Two designs from Auckland for the proposed memorial will be on exhibition.

Letters are coming in from the country from folk anxious to contribute to the fund. A lady writing from North Westland expresses a desire to contribute, and offers to assist in raising funds for so worthy an object. A mother residing at Ross who lost a son writes gratefully for the action taken bv the local Committee.

There is still a necessity for the names of men who fell at the war to be sent in„ as it is the desire to have the list fully complete. Men born .in Westland and who enlisted elsewhere, it is difficult to trace. Any information regarding anyi who fell should lie supplied as soon as possible. The provisional list of the fallen will be published in connection with the Anzac Day ceremony to assist in the complete verification desired.

Lists at country schools need not he sent in till the end of the campaign. Teachers are invited to make a special announcement to the classes to this effect. Lists from the country districts may he sent forward as same are filled, and will be published in due course.

The Westland Racing Club has forwarded a cheque for £25 to the fund. Two contributions of £lO each, and one of £lO 10s have been received also.

The picture proprietors have been asked to make announcements regarding local collections at the various entertainments during the period the lists are open.
