WIN FOR WELLS.

EDDIE McGOORTY OUTFOUGHT. LONDON, April 9. In the early rounds of the Bombardier AVeils-McGoprty fight Wells did most of tile scoring. MeGoorty clinched often, and shook Wells in the fourth with a right to the jaw. Thereafter Wells boxed confidently, and seemed to liavo MeGoorty at his mercy in the eighth rin^d,. hitting. him around the ring and severely punishing him. .MeGoorty gave a wonderful display, however, in the ninth, when tlio crowd had expected Wei 1 s to finish the fight. Ihc American showed extraordinary cleverness in defence. Wells did not attempt to gain a knock out, but was content t;: box in great style. This enabled MeGoorty to recover, and lie nearly knocked out Wells in the twelfth round with a hook to the point of the chin. Wells upnercut at almost the same instant, and both were shaken. Both fought hard for a knock out in the remainder of the round. They were greatly distressed, and appeared likely to drop from exhaustion. This was-a thrilling round, but Wells was superior thereafter. He downed MeGoorty in the

fourteenth, and the latter gradually weakened, only his supreme cleverness and gameness enabling him to reach the sixteenth round.
