LADIES’ GOLF CLUB
The annual meeting of the Hokitika Ladies Golf Club was held on April Bth, when there was a good attendance of members. The report showed a - very satisfactory year. After business relating to matches and other arrangements in connection with the activities of the Club, the following officers were elected for the ensuing year. . Captu—Mrs W. Williams. Deputy Capt.—Airs W. Wilson. Airs Boyd and Airs Stewart (Sec.) Airs Wilson, and Mrs Stewart to' ict 'on Afen’s Committee. : annual report. Your Committee begs to submit the . following report for the year ending 11919. [ The season’s opening—a most suc- • cessful one— consisted of a mixed four- ; some and a series of competitions, a J small cliargo being made for the latter, ' realising the sum of £2 3s Gel. j ’ On the whole the .season has been a very good, with lowered handicaps ; to some especially among the junior | players, whom we congratulate, hoping j that soon they may dp a score entitling them /to senior grade. As we now ■ stand wo lfave 2 players with hep., under 20 who are eligible for silver modal 1 grade, a. matter for congratulation, as unfortunately this year, owing to only player having the required lidrp, ' there was no competition for this medal. ,
7 players have now earned tlieir handicaps for senior grade and in all 11 competed for the bronze medal, 8 for the junior matches, and one for the coronation medal. During the year in addition to the ordinary monthly medal matches, there were played; match play games—which gave members useful and much needed practice. Ladies foursomes, flag and bogey matches, and a one club match was arranged for both junior and senior. The thanks of members are due to the donors of trophies for these matches | viz: Mesdames W. Winchester, J. C.
Macfarlane, Dorreen, Fraser, Park and Stewart—Mrs Wilson donating a trophy for the Junior championship—also to our absent club mate Mrs W. Williams, who though not yet able to be with us has remembered the club by a gift of a. trophy. The Club championship was in A grade won by Miss Moore with Mrs J. 0. Macfarlane as runner up, and in B. grade by Miss Bentley—Mrs J. C. Macfarlane winning the bronze medal and Miss Moore having the best eclectic. Tin's year the matches with Grey- ! mouth were again inaugurated, our club visiting Greymoutli and suffering a , defeat. Alb. -the West Const Championship held here—which incidentally ns you know, "was a sucaeksful meeting— Miss Moore our local champion gained the championship and we congratulate her on the honor of being West Coast champion, feeling pleased that that honor belongs to a member of our club.
This season new arrangements were made for tea on Saturdays, which have proved very workable and most satisfactory and it will he a. recommendation to the incoming committee that they <>ould not do better than adopt the same again.
* From part proceeds of these teas we were enabled to hand over to the general committee £lO to go towards improvements at the golf house. , We would remind players with L.G.TJ heps, that L. G. U. rules put it in the discretion of the Committee to make any member not returning enough scores play under half hdep. As only 0 scores are required it should not he difficult for players to comply with this rule.
Wo regret losing a few of our members through departure, hut at the samo time extend a hearty welcome to all new ones. The Committee appreciate the ready and willing assistance given to it by members and wishes them an enjoyable 1920 season with, many lowered heps. In closing the report the ladies desire to thank the “Guardian” newspaper for tlieir unfailing courtesy in printing reports of meetings and matches.
