cell, and tried to feed the men with barley-water but all refused. Meanwhile, excited crowds outside waved Sinn Fein flags if they caught a glimpse of the prisoners at a window. When the Angelus Bell struck the crowd recited the Rosary in the Irish language.
THE GOVERNMENT’S POLICY. (Received this day, at 9.30 a.m.) ’ LONDON, April 12. Lord French declined to receive the Mayor and Sheriff of Dublin with, reference to the Mount Joy hunger-strikers, pointing out the Government had already announced its policy in regard to the matter. The Dubiin Corporation decided to deputationise the foreign eounsuls, and - —■the American consul receives a deputation to-morrow.
A PRIEST THREATENED. LONDON, April 13. A priest in the south-west of Ireland has received the following letter: — “You are a marked man; you have encouraged crimes and murders. Prepare to meet your God.”
OUTSIDE MOUNT JOY PRISON. (Received this day at 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, April 13. Further demonstrations outside of the prison resulted in the summoning of soldiers to fire shots in the air, causing women and children to flee in a panic. A military tank caught fire. When the Fire Brigade arrived they refused to extinguish the blaze. They turned their horses and drove away, An id eheeyi. It is expected ail work will cease tomorrow, except newspapers, telegraphs, and bakeries. - t The Dublin Corporation adjourned <"3if their meeting as a protest against the —‘ treatment of prisoners.
