In view of the approach of troops, Holtz, the proletarian leader, has ordered the formation of incendiary' detachments in Pauen for the purpose of burning the residences of wealthy people; also town halls, official buildings and railway bridges throughout Saxony. A mob at Falckenstein burned five houses and damaged several others with hand grenades. Holtz left Plauen for Bohemia. LONDON, April 12. Damage to the extent of ten millions marks was done in Essen by “Reds” looting.
A TALE OF TERROR. (Received this day at 8.40 a.m.) BERLIN, April 12
A fuller account of Hoelz’s reign of terror states he spent Saturday plundering Plauen. His Red Guards, with loaded rifles, raided cafes and restaurants. As soon as Hoelz learnt that the Reichswehr were advancing on Falkenstein he ordered five committees to set to work, and gave orders that in ten minutes they were to get clear of the buildings, which were drenched with petrol, before they ignited them. A sea of flame ringed the town for several hours. The Red Guards demanded money or life, from the residents, and hotels, and collected hundreds of thousands of marks. They also seized hostages who were sent to Falkenstein Castle, which is Hoelz’s headquarter. There was considerable shooting throughout the day. The terrorists withdrew in the evening, and commenced running about panic stricken. Meanwhile Hoelz and his comrades had a gay time with wine, song and revel in an ancient baronial castle, developing into a drunken orgy, until early in the morning. They entered motors at 3 o’clock, and dashed to Procure, where the authorities prevented their crossing into Czeclio-Slovakia. Hoelra’s band has taken refuge in Klingenthal, Saxony'. He says they are not so silly: as to fight the Reichswehr, but everything will be burned or blown sky' high and Bourgeoise- blood will run in buc-ketsful.
