The increase is due to the influenza epidemic which caused 6387 deaths. Inter State shipping fares have been increased by twenty per cent and freights are also being increased. NEW COINAGE, BRISBANE, This Day. Melbourne Government has decided to issue a square nickel penny and half penny.
STEAMER RE-FLOATED. (Received This Dav at 11.20. a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. After lightering, the steamer Augghinish was re-floated. STANDARDISATION. MELBOURNE, This Day. The Commonwealth Bureau of Industry submitted to boot and manufacturers suggestions for the standardisation of these products with a view to cheapening prices. The scheme is receiving consideration.
TIN SHARES. (Received This Day at 11*20. a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Badak tin shares have slumped from £IOOO before Easter, to £760. Other shares in the group also slumped heavily. This is chiefly a result of an announcement that the Kedah Government refused to grant any application for mining concessions outside of Badak.
