MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS.

(Hi Electric Telegraph—Cooyright .)

AFGHANISTAN. . (Received This Day at 1.5. p.m.) - DELHI; April 11. Representatives of the Afghan Government are on the way to India with the object of discussing questions with the British authorities. At the Rawulpindi Conference it was made perfectly clear that the Amir must show good faith, by actions, before the old friendly relations were resumed. The situation in Afghanistan has been obscure for some time. It is unquestionable that Afghan intrigues played an important part in the recent frontier fighting. The Bolsheviks mission is still "being entertained at Kabul. It j is difficult to see how any permanent arrangements can be entered into with | the representation from Afghanistan. From a military point of view little is to be feared from Bolshevik threats against India. Afghanistan, however, has an extremely vulnerable frontier, and could not muster sufficient forces to oppose a Bolshevik advance. The Britains undertaking to protect Afghanistan against foreign aggression has lapsed, but India could hardly view a Bolshevik success with equanimity.

STARVED AUSTRIANS. (Received this day at 1.5 p.m.) VIENNA, April 10. Two hundred and four weak, emaciated Austrian war prisoners arrived from Russia. During a terrible journey of three months, 600 comrades lost their lives. Some were starved, and the rest were massacred, being hunted down like a pack of famished dogs.
