WESTLAND RACING CLUB.

AUTUMN MEETING. Tlio autumn meeting of the Westland Racing Club, after having been postponed the previous day owing to heavy rain, took place yesterday in fine weather. There was a good attendance, the course was in good order though a little heavy to the previous day’s rain. There were good fields and capital racing, while speculation was brisk, the sum of £8370 passing through the totalisator as agidnst £5038° at last meeting. The various officials were at their posts and the days racing passed off very pleasantly, j The stipendiary steward (Mr C. Riper of Christchurch), had occasion to warn Donovan, (the rider of Tunic), for careless riding in the opening race. In the President’s Handicap Royal Dragoon, alter weighing out and doing a preliminary was found to be sore, suffering from a kick in the shoulder received in an earlier race. Under the circumstances the Stipendiary Steward allowed the horse to be withdrawn from the race, and the money that had been -invested on it was returned in full. The Town Band was present and enlivened the proceedings with a capital programme. The booths appeared to do a good business. The whole gather i n; , proving a distinct success, there bein” nothing to mar the enjoyment of patrons, who passed a very pleasant afternoon ,the fields being iarge and the contests good. Rosevear went away at the stare and leading all the way won comfortably by two lengths, Consultation half a length away third. Time 1.29. Tote £641. RAILWAY HANDICAP, of £7O, 5i furlongs6—Tyson (8.5) „ 2 Divorce (8.11) I— Tantalus (8.8) 3 \lso started 7 9.9,, 3—Pariform (9.4); 5-AVar Tax (8.5); B—Chudic (8.2); 4-Royal Dragoon ( 8 .1) ; 9-Rora (7.0). There was a lot of delay at the post, several horses play ing up. Tyson finally went away with the advantage of the start and held ail advantage of several lengths. Divorce was next and closed up the interval, hut Tyson had an easy win, Tantalus coming with a fast run, the others close up. Time 1.15 2-5. Tote £1135.

EXPRESS HANDICAP TROT, (saddle), of £65, 1 mile: — I—Elsio Franz llsecs 1 10—Foxglove llsecs 2 4—ATiss Marion 3secs 3

Elsie Franz kept the lead with Foxglove next in attendance. In tho run home Miss' Marion closed up and a fine finish saw Elsie Franz get home by a bare lengthy with Miss Maiion half a length away. Time 2.37 4-5. Tote £1072.

AUTUMN HANDICAP of £l3O, H miles:— 6 —Rosevear (8.10) 1 2—Nautical (8.9) 2 4—Rangi Aroha. (8.3.) 3 Also started.—3—Benefit, 10.6; 5 .Xu nth os (8.0).; 1-Dick 7.12. Rosevear took the lead from Benefit, Rangi Aroha and Xantlios next. Passing tho stand Rosevear was still in the lead from Benefit and Rangi Aroha, Nautical getting into fourth place. In the run home Rosevear held her own easily, winning by two lengths from Nautical, who came fast in the straght, R.angi Aroha half a length away, with the favourite Dick fifth. Time 2.20 1-5. Tote £1377.

PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP, of £7O, 51 furlongs:— I—Kolyma (8.0) 1 s— Hymettius (9.9) 2

3—Tantalus (8.8) * Also started—2—Divorce (8.12); 4 Tyson (9.0); 6—Chudic (8.2); 7—Rora (7.0.) After trouble at the start, Tyson was left Hymettius took the load from Kolyma to the straight where the latter got up and won by a length, Tantalus half a length away, and Divorce fourth. Time 1.16 1-5. Tote £1092. DOMINION HANDICAP TROT, (harness) of £7O, 11 miles: I—Never Will 13secs 1 o. Orange Pippin 9sees 2 3—Palmdale scr °

Also started:—4— Maryhill, 4 secs. ; 5-Rose Tracey 12secs. Never \ViU took the lead with Orange Pippm next. No change was made, the latter being unable to overtake the leader, who won bv several lengths with Palmdale twenty lengths further hack. Time 3.47. Tote £B^B PUGH WEIGHT HANDICAP, of £BO 7 furlongs: — 4—Consultation (8.6) *

6—War Tax (8.8) - s—Xantlios (9.1) A Also started:-2— Lady Middleton HO 4). 1-Restful (9.10); 3—Woodrow (8?9) • 7 —Silver Shield (8.0). Xantlios took the lead with Woodrow next. War Tax then took charge, but Consultation onmo fast and was in front at tho corner winnng by two lengths from War Tax who was half a length in front of Xanthos. Time 1.36. Tote £ll7l.

ELECTRIC HANDICAP TROT, (saddle), of £65, 1$ mlee:— I—Myrtle Leaf 6secs 1 3—Daphne Patch Bsecs 2 s—Maryhill ssecs 3 Also started: —7—Arran Lad llsecs.; 6—lnquisitive 12secs.; 2—Coledrift, 12 secs.; 4—Elsie Franz 13secs. A good race won by a length, Maryhill two lengths away third. Time 3.7 4-5. Tote £1044.
