Archibald, of Omiondville, a wellhnown Hawkes Bay settler, was "ffouml this morning beneath an overturned car on Ratoka Road, dead. The cause of the over-turned car is unknown. He was aged 63, and was known as one of the best sheep judges in the country. ’ ARBITRATION court. CHRISTCHURCH, April 7. The Arbitration Court awarded the -widow of a South Canterbury drover, who 'was thrown from his horso and killed, £SOO compensation and expenses. > Q n o of the defences raised was that the action was barred by the Workers’ Compensation Act, as it had not been brought within six months from tho date of death. The Court, in disallowing the appeal of defendants on this point, attributed the lapse of time before the action brought to no fault of the plaintiff, to debiv on the part of the Public ' : Tnmt officials, who were originally actum’for tho widow. In dealing with the matter tho ,Hid g o commented in very strong terms upon the delay on the part of a Government Department.
