DEMONSTRATION AT WANGANUI. (Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, March 28. A big demonstration of protest against the cost of living and profiteering was held this afternoon and was attended by about four thousand people and representatives of all walks of life in the town. The proceedings were most orderly and marked by their earnestness. Speeches were delivered by Mr. W. A. Veiteh, M P., Mr. Foster (representing the Railway men and the returned soldiers) and Revs. Blamires and Jenkin. A resolution was unanimously carried protesting against the increased cost of living and demanding that the Government should take adequate measures at the earliest moment to give relief to the people preventing profiteering. WILL PRICES FALL? LONDON, March 26. Mr. A. J- Hobson, senior vicepresident of' the Association of British Chambers of Commerce, giving evidence before the M T a r Wealth Committee, on the I7tli of March, expressed the opinion tlyit it nas ony a matter of time when there would be a large drop in the prices of commodities. He opposed the proposed levy on wealth. He dwelt on the impossibility of ascertaining what prices could be in 2) years time. Traders were withdrawn from business in consequence of the existing inflation treroby lessening competition, and contributon to the present high profit making.
