It is to bo hoped that, the locnl public: will tube a practical interest in the meeting to Ice hold at the Town Hall to-morrow afternoon with regard to the disposal of the surplus funds in tlio hands of the Lady Liverpool Commit-
tee. The money was raised freely from the people, it will be remembered, for trench comforts, and it is understood that a sum approximating £650 is the unexpended balance in hand. The urpose for which the money was directly raised fortunately passed away, and the time has come to dispose of the sum to the next best advantage. A proposal has been formulated that
the money should be transferred to the Westland Patriotic Fund, and from there to be used for the provision of comforts and extras for soldiers still in hospital or sanatoria, and for their dependents who may stand in need of extra comforts while the bread winners remain in hospital. There is a further suggestion also to devote a portion of the money to the permanently disabled men for their assistance in providing extra comforts. Thif appears to be a useful way of expending the money, and practically confining the sum to the original purpose intended. Perhaps other suggestions will be made, and we are sure that none would be more welcome than from the soldiers themselves. At the same time it must be borne in mind that the original purpose which the money was raised cannot in the main he departed from, so that in framing proposals the cardinal idea of comforts for those serving or still suffering should be borne in mind. A good attendance and a free expression of public opinion on the matter is therefore to be Welcomed.
