DUNEDIN, Alarch xAt a general meeting of the Dunedin branch of the Railway Officers’ Institute, held to-night the following resolution was carried unanimously: “This meeting of the Dunedin branch of the Rilway Officers’ Institute unanimously disapproves of the recommendations re wages by the 'Enquiry Board, .-pecially with regard to the bonus or married and single officers, which is quite inadequate to meet the ever-increasing cost of living. It is considered that there should be no distinction made between the bonus granted to married or single officers. The meeting also expresses its strong disapproval of the reference made by certain branches of railway societies in connection with the visit of the Prince of Wales to New Zealand.” DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. VICTORIA LEAGUE. AUCKLAND, Alarch 17. The Dominion Conference of the Victoria League opened this morning. The delegates were welcomed by the Alayor. The conference referred to tlie Advisory Executive as the best means of bringing members togethei and keeping the league up to date. It approved of the Wellington remit to formulate a plan to keep in touch with the wives of soldiers married overseas.
It was resolved to write to the High Commissioner that the League was willing to provide a home centre for girl immigrants.
ATTACK BY ROBBERS
ROTORUA, March 18.
About one o’clock this morning, Robert Raynor, aged 60, employed by the Tourist Department, and living alone, was attacked at his home by two masked men. During the struggle Raynor was severely wounded on the bead a piece of iron piping, which was thrown at him. Subsequently he got away to a neighbour, and later was taken to the hospital. The robbers entered his house, but got nothing. further particulars. LATER. When Raynor was attacked, the two masked men knocked at his door, asking for matches. He refused to open the door, but opened a small window and placed the matches within their reach. They again asked him to open the door, threatening to break it down Raynor armed himself with a pick handle, saying that he would defend himself. One of the men threw a piece of iron piping, which fell through the open window, nearly knocking Raynor out. They further attempted to open the door and struck him with a second piece of piping on the forehead. Raynor opened the door suddenly, and got away, carrying a bag containing thirty shillings. One man followed him and lie dropped the bag in a titree and staggered to a neighbouring bouse, the occupant of which took him to the hospital and nine stitches were put in his head. The bag was found empty. The robbers entered Raynor’s house hut took nothing.
