At a meeting of the Westport Harbour Board to-day a resolution was carried on tlie motion of the Chairman (Mr. W. T-. Slee) viewing with concern tho proposed increase of 4 per cent, on railway fares and rates, as it -will operate on the Board’s revenues in the same nujust way as the 21 per cent, already imposed, and calling on the Government to repeal Section 109 of the Finance Act, of 1915, and refund the moneys collected by tile Railway Department under the said Act, as the Board’s endowments are pledged as a security for the loans raised. Tho resolution added that tho delay of Cabinet in dealing with this matter is prejudicing the Board’s position, while it is reaping revenue for tlie Railway Department. The position is unjust and unreasonable, and tlie operation of tho Finance Act, -1915, is iniquitious and wholly wrong in principle as applied to this Board, and we ask for immediate action by the Prime Minister is giving the Board relief.”
