THE WOMEN’S CHOICE
(Lady’s Pictorial.) Arc women responsible for the standard in husbands, so to put it? Are they to blame for the bulk of tlie now so frequent matrimonial disasters, inasmuch as they choose the wrong men, and prefer the obviously dashing and Jazzing young fellow to the steady companion who would be true till the end of life?
It is fairly obvious, at any rate that (in spite of superficial appearances) the woman does as a rule make the choice. She may not propose. She disposes. Sho decides what sort of mail she will marry. It is for him merely to succumb and marry her. Afterwards, tlie moralists tell her, she has no right to complain. For it is all her fault. It is rather a hard saying. But at least it is clear that a woman’s choice in marriage is vital for almost the whole of her life’s happiness. Let her choose well, then, and with an eye, not to eternity of Jazz dancing, with a welldressed youth, but to the companionable equalities that make domestic life endurable, if not romantic. Thus women will create a demand for reliable husbands. And the supply may follow the demand. At present the demand seems to he rather for the Jazz husband, and we must not wonder at the consequent supply of that very unreliable typo.
