PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO DUMB ANIMALS.

(To tbo Editor.) Sir —If there are any members locally ibelonging to the “Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Dumb Animals,” I would like to draw their attention to a cruel practice’that is in vogue at the Three Milo Railway Stock yards. It is a common practice here to place stock in these yards and have the poor beasts for days without either food or water, and it is time the responsible parties were asked to explain to a magistrate why a poor beast (after doing a long journey) should be left for another 24 or 48 hours without water or fodder. A case in point Last Monday morning a bull was put into these yards and later in the day some cows. These poor beasts were left standing in the yards till Wednesday at midday, when they were loaded on the train going north and the only food supplied to them during the two days they were in the yards here was a small quantity of hay which was thrown in the mud and filth on the floor of the yards and needless to say that small morsel was trampled into the mud instead of being eaten by the beasts. Let up hope the poor beasts got a drink at the end of their railway journey.

Another ease in point—Some sheep were put off the 9.30. n.m. train on Wednesday (I don’t know how long they had been on the journev) lmt I do now, they were left in the railway yards hero till 10.30 a.tn. on Thursday without, cither food or (worse • still) without water. Hoping the above Society will move ip this matter. —I am. etc., A T.OVER of dumb antmalk.
