Thoughts For The Times.
On Giving Advice. We are all liberal with good advice. It costs little, and usually accomplishes much, The advice may he admirable, but the character behind nullifies its effect. As Mrs Browning says: We have all known Good critics who have stamped out ppets’ hppes; Good statesmen who pulled ruin on the State; Good patriots who for a theory risked a cause;
Good kings who disemboweled for a tax;
Good popes who brought all good to jeopardy; Good Christians who sate still on easy chairs,
And damned the general world foi standing up.
