Before the Northern Territory Commission, Private Geinberg said he was imprisoned in Fanny Bay gaol for s-x----leqn months for debt, without any court proceedings, and being 'arrested while on his way to enlist. He further ssid that when the recruiting campaign started, Dr Gilruth went to the De fence Department and had it stopped. While in gaol lie once refused to enter a cell. The warder drew a revolver, and ordered the guard to shoot prisoner. Concluding, witness stated all the other prisoners in gaol for debt, were men who tried to enlist.

The former manager of the Terminus Hotel at Danvin in his evidence, stated he saw a drunken policeman with a revolver make a number of people stand in a lino against the wall.
