JUMP IN HIDE PRICES. CHRISTCHURCH, May 9. 'Hie record prices recently received for hides were exceeded at Christchurch sales held to-day Competition was keen and the second lino submitted, a prime ox hide, reached 24’d—a ecord figure. A considerable proportion went over 23d per lb, and calf skins realised up to 44d. Secondary quality • hides were largely secured by the exporters. Hides made up to 26s 6d each. As the sale progressed, prices did not alter materially, except that calf-skins touched 441 d. FLU AT TIMARU. TIMARU, March 9. Cases of influenza continue to he reported here. There were 18 new cases to-day. In consequence of a number of employees being sick the Pareora freezing works have been closed for a week.
