BRITISH GOVERNMENT’S PURCHASES. LONDON, Feb. 23. In the House of Commons, replying to Major Barnes, (Co.-Lib), regarding a sum of £6 S,OCX) advanced by the Treasury to the Board of Trade for the purpose of acquiring zinc concentrates, Sir Auckland Geddcs, (President of the Board of Trade) referred to the contract entered into during the war between the British Government and, the Australian Producers’ Association, and its objects. He stated that owing to the prolonged strike at Broken Hill the concentrates which were previously required by tho Government were stocked there, lmt they would be placed in the borne agents’ hands as soon as possible. The concentrates would require treatment, and the Government was at present considering the terms on which they would he sold to British smelters, and any surplus to foreign smelters.
